Tavira is a Portuguese city of 17,000 people and is located in the region of Algarve, in the south of Portugal, concretely in the Zone called Faro. Tavira is an extensive municipality, with 9 districts.

Tavira is divided into various zones or Freguesias. The most important of them holds the capital, Santa Maria de Tavira, which is rich in its patrimony, and has over 8,000 inhabitants. It is a touristic destination that today boasts of rural houses where you can find accomodation, hotels, villas, apartments, hostels, etc... all made to meet the rising demand of tourism in the area.

Tavira has incredible beaches, such as the Playa de la Isla de Tavira (Island Beach), where you can find a nudist section. There are also other beaches that are surrounded by nature and in protected environments, like the Ria Rormosa Natural Park. There are also a number of sports activities to enjoy in this place such as hiking, biking, golf, surf, windsurf....

Tavira, above all that was forementioned, is an ideal place to enjoy Portuguese gastronomy, with excellent dishes and fish being the main course. The cuisine you will find here is very traditionally Portuguese and many plates you will find here are the same dishes that others enjoyed centuries ago.
